Comfrey is a free growing perennial herb with large leaves and bursts of little blue or violet flowers. Sometimes known as "knitbone," Comfrey anti-inflammatory qualities and heavy Calcium and Vitamin C content are excellent for supporting wound and bone healing. Breaks, sprains and similar conditions respond well with Comfrey, and as an external application, it also is good for general pain reduction. In addition, it can be helpful for insect bites, bed sores, rashes and similar conditions. Comfrey is primarily used externally, and the tincture can be applied directly, or added to a carrier oil like olive or grape seed oil and then applied to the area on the body in need. Overall, Comfrey is a great herb to have in your herbal first aid kit.
